Methods
With XRay monitor, you can check objects using any of the following
methods...
PING - Send a simple ping to the host or IP address to see if
it is "alive"
PORT - Scan a TCP or UDP port to see
if it is listening (SMTP, POP, HTTP, RDP, FTP or any other port)
SMTP - Connect to your mailserver and
attempt to deliver an email to a recipient you specify (alarm on either
pass or fail)
HTTP - Request a web page from your
website, and analyze it to search for keywords (alarm on either pass or
fail)
DNS - We connect to a DNS server you
specify and do an NSLOOKUP to test for an expected result
POP3 - Connect to your mailserver and attempt a login with a user/pass you specify
RBL - Tests the IP address of your
mailserver to make sure it is not blacklisted with SpamCop, SpamHaus,
SORBS or UCEProtect
FTP - Connect to an FTP server, upload
a file (1KB), download it, and delete it to make sure your FTP server is
working*
MS SQL - Connect and issue a SELECT
statement to your MS SQL server and analyze the results of the query*

Controls
Checks are made at intervals you specify, ranging from every minute to
every 30 minutes, 24/7 year round
You can choose how many checks in a row returning a "down" result are
needed before you are alerted.
You can choose how many minutes apart "reminder" alerts are sent after the
initial a "down" alert is sent.
